Keith Wyness shares instant reaction to Jay-Z Everton takeover news

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed US rap star Jay-Z “wouldn’t be the worst co-investor” for the Merseysiders.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed an influx of American celebrity investors will only continue as they look to boost their profiles in the UK.

According to The Sun (15 September), Jay-Z – who has a net worth of £2billion – is on the radar of John Textor to join his takeover at Everton.

It is claimed Textor, 58, has contacted several possible partners to help turn the Toffees into a superpower.

The US businessman has revealed “progress” in his bid to buy Farhad Moshiri’s majority stake at Goodison Park, but must first sell his 45 per cent stake at Crystal Palace.

Wyness backs ‘proven businessman’ Jay-Z joining Everton takeover bid

Wyness insisted Jay-Z is a “proven businessman” after his co-ownership of the Brooklyn Nets and the establishment of his sports agency Roc Nation Sports.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “There’s a lot of interest from US sports stars and American rap stars.

“I know one League Two club who has one of the major rappers and a consortium of NFL players trying to buy in.

“It’s attractive for them, they see it as good for their profile.

“These clubs are also good investments, so we won’t see any shortage of that.

“He’s got some serious money, he’s a proven businessman – and he’d bring a lot of contacts in the commercial world.

“He wouldn’t be the worst co-investor.”

In other news, Everton could lose eight stars after “big” Textor news.
