Kevin De Bruyne 'destination obvious' with Man City exit on the cards

Kevin De Bruyne may have one obvious next destination on the cards as he weighs up a possible departure from Man City.

As things stand, the midfielder is out of contract at the Etihad Stadium at the end of this season, meaning he could sign a pre-contract agreement with another club as early as next month.

His showing in the win over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night (4 December), that helped Pep Guardiola’s side return to some sort of form, was a reminder of just how good he still is.

Plenty of clubs would therefore surely be keen to sign the Belgian if he was to leave Man City, although recent reports may suggest that one in particular, could be emerging as the likely next destination for De Bruyne.

It has recently been claimed that once the 33-year-old decides to leave the current Premier League champions, he will be given the chance to join another club within the City Football Group [Telegraph].

Given the asset he is both on and off the pitch, keeping him within that setup is surely a sensible move for the Group.

Doing so could arguably also mean that De Bruyne himself, may want to think about a move to New York, once he bids farewell to Man City.

Last month it was revealed that the midfielder has held talks over a potential move to MLS, where a number of clubs would be keen to have him [The Athletic].

Connecting the lines through, may suggest that New York City FC now have an advantage in the race to sign De Bruyne.

The club from the Big Apple are one of those who come under the City Football Group umbrella, with the group holding an 80% stake in the MLS side.

As a result, if De Bruyne does indeed follow through on these talks over a move from Man City to the USA, there may be some effort from those around him to direct him to New York in particular.

With the club having made the play-offs last season, there is potential for success there for the midfielder, that could appeal to him.

There is also a chance that given how much he has got from his association with the group during his time in Manchester, he would be willing to continue that connection even if he leaves Guardiola’s team.

A move to New York would give him the chance to do that while also experiencing a move to the MLS that he appears to be open to, meaning this could tick a number of boxes for De Bruyne in the future.
