Kevin Thelwell in tense talks for brand new striker transfer at Everton - report

Everton sporting director Kevin Thelwell was spotted in tense talks with AS Roma’s technical manager Florent Ghisolfi over Tammy Abraham, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper reported in its print edition [11 August, page 38] that the duo were discussing a move for the 26-year-old following the pre-season draw between the two on Saturday 10 August.

Although Roma are searching for a buyer in the Premier League, hoping to sell him for £25.7million, Abraham made his stance very clear, stating that he is ready to fight for his place.

Everton close in on Tammy Abraham transfer after AS Roma friendly?

Sean Dyche’s side could certainly be closing in on a move for the former Chelsea star, especially after the two sides faced off at Goodison Park.

While current striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin was able to find the back of the net against Roma, it is unclear what his future holds with the Toffees, having gone into the final 12 months of his contract.

Either way, it appears that a new striker is high on the list of priorities for Dyche and his team, with several forwards from around Europe being linked with the Toffees after signing Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom.

Beto and Neal Maupay are far from ideal attacking reinforcements for the 27-year-old, and they could now be closing in on signing Abraham, who has plenty of experience in England.

Despite Dan Friedkin’s collapsed takeover attempt, the Roma owner could very much still have an impact on the striker’s movements this summer, with the two clubs forming a relationship [Corriere dello Sport].

Given Abraham’s experience with Chelsea and Aston Villa in the Premier League and Championship, it could be a very smart purchase by the Toffees, especially if Calvert-Lewin is to leave before the window shuts.

In other Everton news, Kalvin Philipps would be “ideal” for Sean Dyche as Neil Warnock issues a new transfer verdict.
