King claims Tottenham need to sell first-team star to fund £65m transfer this summer

Bryan King claims Tottenham will need to sell Richarlison if they want to sign Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.

The ex-Spurs scout doesn’t see a way in which both players can be at the club simultaneously.

It comes after The Athletic reported (9 June) that Solanke has a £65million release clause in his contract which can only be activated by certain teams.

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Spurs would need to raise some cash to fund the big-money move.

“It is a fair price to pay if they get rid of Richarlison first,” King said.

“I can’t see Solanke and Richarlison both being at the club at the same time.

“Tottenham are not in the UEFA Champions League, but if they’re going to sign a player like Solanke for that kind of money they will be paying Champions League wages.

“He would earn far more at Spurs than he is at Bournemouth.”

Some supporters might question whether it is worth selling Richarlison to sign Solanke.

Based on the evidence of last season, the answer would be that it is.

Richarlison struggled with injuries and only managed 11 Premier League goals.

Meanwhile, Solanke found the back of the net 19 times while playing for a team which finished much lower down the table.

There is reason to believe that Solanke could hit 20-plus goals a season for Tottenham.

A total which Richarlison is yet to reach after two seasons.
