Pundit tells Daniel Levy to 'Write Off' Tottenham flop as 'Nightmare Scenario' emerges

Tottenham and Daniel Levy will have to write off the “nightmare” signing of Tanguy Ndombele as one of their biggest-ever mistakes, according to Alan Hutton.

The French midfielder joined Spurs under Mauricio Pochettinho in a £63million transfer from Lyon [Sky Sports, 2 July 2019] but never managed to reach the heights expected of him, even struggling whilst on loan with Galatasaray last season.

With his loan spell in Turkey now over, the 27-year-old is set to return to North London, but reports suggest that the Lilywhites will terminate his contract a year before it is set to expire at the end of next season [Fabrizio Romano, 11 June].

Although Hutton has been left baffled by how badly this move has turned out for all parties, he believes both Spurs and Levy will have learned from their errors to avoid making the same mistake in the future.

“Did they not break their transfer record to bring him in,” Hutton exclusively told Tottenham News.

“The wages that he would have been on, I don’t even know how many years he’s got left on his contract so they’re just going to have to write it off as one of the biggest mistakes they’ve made.

“He’s not going to come back and play, they’re not going to make that money back so it has just been a nightmare scenario for them and if he’s got years left, you’re going to have to pay him off to leave.

“That’s what it comes down to if you don’t want him in the club, then he’s free to go where he wants. It has just been a really bad transfer.

“It happens, not all the time but it does happen and unfortunately this is for huge amounts of money so I’m pretty sure they won’t make that same mistake again.”

Have Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou terminated Tanguy Ndombele’s contract?

Few could have predicted that this situation would end in this manner when Ndombele arrived in England as a player with a seemingly limitless ceiling ready to hit new heights in his career while in a Spurs shirt.

But as Ange Postecoglou looks to put his stamp on the squad this summer, there is no place for the 27-year-old in the Australian’s plans and you would have to imagine Tottenham would struggle to find someone willing to buy him.

Although the early termination of his deal will be a financial hit for the Lilywhites this summer, it is better than continuing to pay the midfielder’s wages while he sits on Postecoglou’s bench for the next 12 months.

Hopefully, with the freed-up wages, the Spurs boss and Levy will be able to turn their attention to incomings this summer and continue to build a squad capable of breaking back into the Champions League places.
