Chris Jack: Rangers man has no future under Clement as summer Ibrox exit mooted

Ianis Hagi doesn’t have a future at Rangers even after an impressive Euro 2024 display for Romania against Slovakia, according to Chris Jack.

The 25-year-old started as Romania booked their place in the round of 16 with a 1-1 draw on Wednesday (26 June) with pundits and players alike suggesting he deserved a second chance at Ibrox.

Although Rangers Review journalist Jack was impressed by Hagi’s display for his national side, he doesn’t believe that the attacking midfielder has what it takes to force his way back into Philippe Clement’s side.

Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel (27 June) he said: “In terms of his Rangers future, I don’t think he has a Rangers future unfortunately for Ianis, I think that ship has sailed as they say.

“I don’t see it as a case of Hagi has a good summer, then comes back for pre-season, really impresses the manager and then gets in the squad. I don’t think he’s dynamic enough, I don’t think he’s quick enough.

“I just don’t see him fitting into a Philippe Clement side and I think it is best for him and the club if he moves on. If that comes at the end of a Euros campaign which is good for Romania, which it clearly has been so far, I think that’s definitely a positive for Rangers.

“They do have to maximise their income from these sales. Playing at the Euros, it’s shop window time for Ianis Hagi. There is always going to be an attraction of the Hagi name, clubs will be drawn to that because of the fact you have a shirt that has got Hagi 10 on the back of it, that’s got its own appeal.

“The whole loan didn’t work out in the manner that he needed it to and that would have hurt his value, the Gers would have been watching on thinking we’re not going to get much money for this guy. Now Romania are flying high and on the crest of the wave.

“If Ianis can play his part in the next game, then who knows after that.”

Will Rangers sell Ianis Hagi in summer transfer window after new Euro 2024 update?

The summer transfer window may still be in its infancy, but Clement and his team at Ibrox have wasted absolutely no time building a squad capable of closing the gap to Celtic at the top of the table with several new signings.

Plenty of players have already headed out the door as well, but there is more clearing out to be done with the likes of Sam Lammers, Kieran Dowell and Tom Lawrence all expected to be sold before the start of next season.

Rangers Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement is on the hunt for new players at Rangers this summer.

Clement wants to trim the fat on his squad and while Hagi has shown this summer that he is still capable of performing at the highest level, that is unlikely to have been enough to convince the Belgian to give him another chance.

The Gers will be able to cash in on his services this summer and that price will only go up the further Romania progresses in the tournament. Either way, it doesn’t seem as though he has a future at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, Clement may sanction the exit of Todd Cantwell during the summer transfer window at Ibrox
