King gushes over Everton player as contract terms are officially agreed

Bryan King has piled praise on Ashley Young after the full-back agreed a contract extension with Everton.

The ex-Goodison scout believes the 38-year-old’s presence in the changing room could be important next season.

Everton confirmed via X (25 June) that Young has signed a one-year contract extension with the Toffees.

And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – claims this was the correct decision for the player.

“I think Young deserves this new contract,” King said.

“He has proved what a good professional he is. He has played at the highest level and he has won major trophies.

“If you’re bringing in young players then you need players around in your squad who have that experience. This is well-deserved.

“He has proved that he can still play so well done to him.”

This might well be Young’s final Premier League contract.

The defender will have turned 40 by the time the 2025/26 Premier League season gets underway and is therefore unlikely to be handed any fresh contracts next summer.

As a result, the Englishman will be keen to go out on a high this season.

Even if he is unable to feature as much as he has in previous years, his presence around the club could still prove to be very important.

The Toffees have several talented young players on their books and Young will act as the perfect role model.

With Dan Friedkin expected to takeover, next season looks as if it might be a transition season for the club as they seek stability.

Young could therefore be a perfect player to keep around the place, and proved last season that he can still chip in on the pitch as well.
