Price now raised after Everton make approach for new transfer - report

Everton have been told that the price of Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo has now been raised after their approach, according to Tutto Sport.

The Italian outlet reported on 1 July that his price has risen due to his stellar performances at Fiorentina last season.

Premier League rivals Wolves and Newcastle United have also thrown their hats in the ring for a potential transfer this summer.

Would Arthur Melo be a good transfer for Everton?

The Toffees have been linked with a move for the ex-Liverpool man since 28 May when the Daily Mail reported that the club was interested in acquiring his services.

But, considering Arthur’s last Premier League stint with that club, it’s understandable why Everton fans have their reserves about what the 27-year-old can bring to the table.

His 2022/23 campaign was riddled with injuries and he failed to have much of an impact at all on the Red half of Merseyside.

However, the Brazil international’s last season with Fiorentina showcased the skillset that the midfielder still possesses.

Arthur played a total of 48 games for the Italian side last term and managed to contribute to a total of six goals.

Although these returns aren’t astonishing, when the fact that during 37 of those games, he was deployed in defensive-midfield is taken into account, they begin to look much better.

And, due to his ability to play in that number six role, he could be Everton’s ideal Amadou Onana replacement should the Belgium international depart the club this summer – a deal that is looking increasingly likely as the window goes on [Sport, 1 July, page 15].

In other Everton news, Alan Myers has revealed that the Toffees will dip into the market this summer for a Ben Godfrey replacement.
