Rangers have “more or less” accepted a £2.1million bid for Sam Lammers from Eredivisie side FC Twente, according to VI.

The Dutch website reported on Friday (July 26) that there was some uncertainty about whether Lammers would be loaned or bought from the Gers, but Twente is now going to sign him permanently.

The club is almost in agreement with Rangers and will pay a fixed transfer fee of around £2.1million. And, with substantial bonuses, this amount could rise significantly.

Lammers did not enjoy his time at Ibrox, but he managed to make a strong comeback at FC Utrecht.

Utrecht were also interested in Lammers but could not meet Rangers’ demands, VI added.

Rangers and Lammers desperate for the deal to finalise

Rangers and Lammers must be equally desperate to finalise the deal with Twente. After signing for £3.5million, Lammers couldn’t find his footing in Glasgow, scoring only twice in 31 games.

However, his loan spell at Utrecht was a different story. He found the net 11 times in just 20 matches, showing everyone he still has what it takes.

For Rangers, selling Lammers is important too. Philippe Clement needs to sell players to bring in new signings as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of the new season [FootballScotland, July 25].

And, Lammers’ exit could provide the funds needed for these plans.

For Lammers, moving back to the Eredivisie with Twente is a fantastic opportunity. He thrived in the Netherlands, and a fresh start there could reignite his career yet again.

On top of that, training with the B team at Rangers since returning for pre-season isn’t doing him any favours.

This move is a win-win for both Rangers and Lammers. It’s the right call for everyone involved, and hopefully, the deal will be finalised soon, allowing both the club and the player to move forward.

In other Rangers news, an Ibrox exit could be key in the Gers landing a long-term target this summer.
