Dan Bardell has warned Everton about signing Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle United this summer after what happened last season with Beto.

The Toffees now see signing the Ghanian as a “priority” this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano (28 June) with Lyon also interested.

The Chronicle Live has reported (28 June) that opening bids have fallen short of the Magpies’ demands but Everton could return with a fresh bid.

A fee in the region of £33.8 million might be enough [Gianluca Di Marzio] but Sky Sports Journalist Bardell has likened the move to Beto’s £25.75m signing last summer [Sky Sports].

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “It feels like one that is done because Newcastle need to shift someone for PSR purposes.

He is an unknown quantity in England but does have plenty of pace so he does have useful qualities. It would certainly be a risk for Newcastle to sell someone to Everton and if he does well it won’t reflect very well on them.

I think that it is a lot of money for Everton to spend on someone who is unproven. They got burnt with Beto after spending a similar amount on him last summer.

There’s just something about that move, especially with the Iliman Ndiaye links, that I don’t see happening from either club’s perspective.

Everton interested in Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle

Although the fee involved may be quite high, signing Minteh could prove to be a clever piece of business for the future of the Toffees.

Over the years Everton have splashed out on big signings that are at or past their peak which have failed to impress for the most part.

With that being said, younger players who have been signed like Jordan Pickford and Amadou Onana have proved to be superb.

Minteh had an excellent season with Feyenoord despite being just 19 years old and it is a surprise that Newcastle may look to sell him.

Everton target Yankuba Minteh excelled on loan at Feyenoord last season.

With the PSR issues that have plagued Everton and now look to be hampering many other teams in the transfer market, this may be a forced deal.

It remains unclear whether or not the Gambia international is needed considering Jack Harrison’s signing and rumours surrounding Iliman Ndiaye but he would still be a positive signing.
