King gushes over 'Outstanding' Tottenham star after 'very impressive' moment v Man Utd

Bryan King was wowed by Micky van de Ven’s “very impressive” assist for Tottenham as they beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday (29 September).

The ex-Spurs scout believes the Dutchman was one of the “outstanding” players on the pitch.

Gary Neville was blown away by van de Ven after his assist for Brennan Johnson at Old Trafford.

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has pointed out the similarities between this assist and the defender’s assist in the 4-0 win over Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (24 August).

“There was a lot of positive displays from Spurs players,” King said.

“However, for me, one of the outstanding players was van de Ven. His assist for Johnson’s goal was similar to the assist he provided against Everton.

“He wins the ball at the back and then runs 50 or 60 yards with the ball before setting up a teammate. Against Everton it was Son Heung-min, this time it was Johnson.

“It was a great run, a great ball across the goal and a relatively easy finish. Very impressive.”

It has been a positive start to the season for van de Ven.

Despite some of Spurs’ struggles, the 23-year-old has hardly put a foot wrong.

Therefore, it appears as if the centre-back will be key to any Spurs success this season. As a result, keeping him fit will be crucial.

And with the number of games that the North London side have to play, Postecoglou will need to think carefully about his squad selections.
