'Ludicrous' - Jim White hits out over Everton story

Jim White has taken aim at a group of Everton fans live on talkSPORT for what he describes as “ludicrous” behaviour at Euston station on Saturday.

Speaking on the radio channel with Simon Jordan and Danny Murphy [28 August], White dished out criticism at the Toffees fans who gathered at the London terminus to rage at the squad as they boarded the train back to Liverpool after a 4-0 drubbing by Tottenham Hotspur.

Jordan and Murphy reasoned with host White that football for many is “a religion” and that to cross the line would be when any abuse became physical, adding that scathing criticism comes with the adulation players also receive throughout their careers.

White responded: “It’s ludicrous, really. The whole scene is ludicrous when you think of it.

“A group of people screaming and hurling abuse at a bunch of sportsmen after a sporting event, it doesn’t really rate it any list of importance in life, does it?”

Everton fans make their feelings clear

Whilst the Everton supporters who had gathered in wait for the squad at Euston at the weekend were a minority, it was a whipped up reflection on behalf of the thoughts of thousands.

Even the boardroom chaos ensuing at Goodison Park aside, all of the Toffees’ hard work under Sean Dyche in the latter part of last season has unravelled at the start of this campaign.

It’s a saving grace, really, that Dyche’s team were at least able to navigate their way past League Two opponents Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night to advance in the Carabao Cup, after an apathetic first half.

It’s an interesting debate – whilst outright abuse cannot be justified, the fans concerned would argue there is no effective alternative in projecting their dissatisfaction with how things are panning out at the one institution they care about – the one in which they would invest their last penny.

Everton did however do enough to beat Doncaster and will this week discover their Carabao Cup third round opponents – a cup run will be beneficial for the fans – and Bournemouth now stand between the Blues and some international break respite.

In other Everton news, two players shown in the controversial Euston video could be on their way out.
