Bryan King agrees with Jamie Carragher that Everton shouldn’t have posted a video mocking Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon.
The ex-Goodison scout believes the post was “unnecessary” from the Toffees.
Gordon missed a penalty as Everton and Newcastle United drew 0-0 at Goodison Park on Saturday (5 October), although King feels the spot kick should have been retaken.
In response, the Toffees posted the video of the miss, with a ‘buzzer’ sound added at a fan’s request (via Everton on X, 6 October).
Carragher has hit out at the club for doing this via his personal X account (6 October).
And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – agrees that the post shouldn’t have been made.
“I’m sure Gordon feels bad enough,” King said.
“He is a local boy who has come through the system at Everton. He proved he’s a good player and moved for big money after coming through the academy, which is a testament to the academy.
“Therefore, I was surprised that Newcastle allowed him to take the penalty. Newcastle shouldn’t have allowed Gordon to take it, there was a lot of unnecessary pressure on him. They surely had somebody else in the side who could’ve done better than he did.”
“As for what Everton posted, I’m not a great lover of social media, and that shouldn’t have been posted. I think that was unnecessary from the football club.
“Gordon cost Everton very little and made them a lot of money.”
Everton in the wrong after Anthony Gordon controversy?
Whatever the relationship between Gordon and Everton fans, it is for the supporter and the player to have that relationship.
There is no need for an official club account to join in ridiculing a player. Therefore, the Toffees were bound to receive criticism for this post.
Sean Dyche’s side will have to travel to St. James’ Park later this season. As a result, this social media fiasco could come back to haunt the club.
In other Everton news, a deadline for Dele Alli’s return has been speculated after recent news at Finch Farm.
