King predicts Tottenham man to accept reunion with ex-Spurs manager amid transfer update

Bryan King believes Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg would welcome a reunion with Jose Mourinho.

The ex-Spurs scout claims the midfielder could be sold for “decent money” this summer.

It comes after the Daily Mail reported (10 June) that Atletico Madrid have rekindled their interest in signing Hojbjerg.

As well as the La Liga side, Fenerbahçe have discussed the possibility of signing the 28-year-old. Mourinho recently took over at the club and has previously worked with Hojbjerg, signing him for Spurs in 2020.

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes this could be crucial.

“Hojbjerg has been playing well for Denmark recently,” King said.

“That goes to show what he can do when he is playing in an environment where he is happy.

“He has done reasonably well at Tottenham, but it seems for some reason that Ange Postecoglou doesn’t really fancy him. I think they will get decent money for him.

“His relationship with Mourinho will likely convince him to join Fenerbahçe. Having a manager who believes in you is a massive plus for a player.”

Postecoglou is unlikely to stand in the way of Hojbjerg leaving North London.

The Denmark international was not a regular last season, and with just one year remaining on his contract, now might be the best time for Daniel Levy to cash in.

Atletico Madrid might be the most tempting option on paper for the Dane, but a reunion with Mourinho could prove difficult to turn down.

After arriving at Spurs, Hojbjerg was one of the first names on the team sheet every week under Mourinho.

And after a season where he has hardly started, guaranteed first-team football with a former manager might be exactly what Hojbjerg is after.
