Bryan King has slammed Radu Drăgușin after his performance for Tottenham in the North London side’s 3-2 defeat against Galatasaray.
The ex-Spurs scout wasn’t impressed with any of Ange Postecoglou’s back-four in the UEFA Europa League at RAMS Park on Thursday (7 November).
Galatasaray capitalised on Drăgușin’s poor touch midway through the first half. It was Victor Osimhen who put the hosts ahead after Will Lankshear had cancelled out Yunus Akgün’s wonder strike, with the 19-year-old praised after the match despite his sending-off.
Osimhen would score again, and despite Dominic Solanke making an impact off the bench and grabbing a goal, it was too little too late for Spurs.
And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – couldn’t believe what he saw from Drăgușin.
“I thought Spurs defended terribly,” King said.
“After all that noise about Drăgușin not being in the team enough, he was given his chance and we saw what happened in the first half with him.
“His first touch before the second goal was poor and it presented Galatasaray a chance to close him down. That was a horrendous mistake.
“I wasn’t impressed at all with the entire back four. Fraser Forster didn’t look confident between the sticks. However, what goalkeeper would playing behind that defence?
“When you’re missing your two main centre-backs, it is never easy.”
Radu Drăgușin struggles for Tottenham v Galatasaray
Spurs were all over the place against Galatasaray, with club captain Son Heung-min one of many players who had a night to forget. However, it was Drăgușin who really struggled.
With all the transfer speculation surrounding the centre-back and a potential move to Juventus (via La Gazzetta dello Sport, 4 November), many Spurs supporters probably wouldn’t mind shipping him off to Italy on the back of that performance.
However, considering the injury struggles Postecoglou is facing right now, Spurs need Drăgușin.
Therefore, the 22-year-old needs to step up, starting in the Premier League against Ipswich Town at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (10 November).
