King View: Tottenham would be 'Foolish' to sell player in January after injury development

Tottenham could be forced to keep one unwanted player after Destiny Udogie’s injury setback.

Udogie was forced off with a hamstring injury in Spurs’ 2-2 Premier League draw with Wolves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (29 December).

As a result, the Italian could be out of action for up to six weeks, which would leave Ange Postecoglou short of left-back options, especially after Ben Davies’ recent injury setback.

According to the Sunday People (29 December, page 55), Brentford are keen on bringing Sergio Reguilón back to West London after the Spaniard spent time on loan with the Bees previously.

However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks that deal could be off the cards ahead of January after Udogie’s injury setback.

“They’re going to need to wait and see the extent of Udogie’s injury,” King said.

“At the moment, Reguilón is all they have. Therefore, I don’t think any deal will be agreed in January. it would be foolish for Spurs to get rid of one of their few options at left-back.

“If Udogie hadn’t been injured, I’m sure Brentford would have taken Reguilón straightaway.”

Tottenham to keep hold of Sergio Reguilón in January?

Reguilón is out of contract at the end of the season and doesn’t have a long-term future in North London. As a result, the club were expected to cut ties with the defender, who had even been mooted to potentially reunite with José Mourinho.

However, it seems as though in a shocking turn of events, Postecoglou might now need Reguilón.

This demonstrates just how bad the injury crisis at Tottenham is, and how much work needs to be done on Postecoglou’s squad in January.

In other Tottenham news, the club might already have a transfer replacement lined up for Udogie.
