Kris Boyd names 5 Rangers players in Team of the Week

Kris Boyd’s Scottish Premiership Team of the Week is dominated by the inclusion of five Rangers players following the win over Ross County.

The Gers truly kickstarted their campaign with a 6-0 thumping at Hampden Park on Saturday (24 August).

Cyriel Dessers and Rabbi Matondo each scored twice and are included in Boyd’s side for The Scottish Sun [26 August].

Tom Lawrence also netted and is included by Boyd, as are left-back Jefte and goalkeeper Jack Butland.

Rangers can use thumping win to push on

The start of the 2024-25 campaign had been rather underwhelming to say the least prior to the visit of Ross County.

Rangers had lost to Dynamo Kyiv in Champions League qualifying, while also dropping points at Hearts in the league.

However, a par-for-the-course 2-0 win over St Johnstone in the cup was followed up by that thumping six-goal victory at the weekend.

It was a morale-boosting victory and has come at a good time ahead of next weekend’s first Old Firm of the campaign.

Philippe Clement will know that defeat will leave his side playing catch-up already, so a point at the very least has to be the target.

With Dessers and Matondo hitting form, they will both be looking to push on at Celtic – assuming the latter is still here – later this week.

On the basis of the Ross County game, Clement will simply be after more of the same from his players.

In other Rangers news, an exit-linked player now appears to be going absolutely nowhere.
