Ibrox View: Rangers hit with eleventh hour transfer blow as player set for medical elsewhere

Rangers appear set to miss out on the services of Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri this transfer window.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri on 26 August, the Tunisia international is set to undergo his medical to join Burnley.

Mejbri would undoubtedly have added a lot of energy and solidity in midfield and given Gers an important presence in that position.

Philippe Clement lost two midfielders in Ryan Jack and John Lundstram this summer and potentially will see Todd Cantwell leaving as well.

That means they’re short on options in midfield and even Steven Davis retired last season, making that area of the pitch thinner than ever.

While Connor Barron did arrive this window, another midfielder is something Clement would welcome after the club’s unsuccessful pursuit of Sevilla’s Joan Jordan.

Hopefully, things are ongoing behind the scenes and there is positive news for Gers fans come the end of the month.

In other Rangers news, an update has emerged as Gers hold talks to sign a former Premier League defender on a free transfer.
