Murrayfield may be the “last option” for Rangers after delays to the redevelopment of the Copland Road Stand at Ibrox, according to Roger Hannah.

The Light Blues are reportedly in talks over a potential temporary move to the home of Scottish rugby which could last for the entirety of August after work at the Gers’ home ground was delayed in the off-season [Scottish Sun, 20 June].

While both Hampden Park and even a reduced capacity Ibrox have been mooted as potential short-term solutions, The Scottish Sun’s head of sport Hannah has suggested Murrayfield is the only contender.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard (1 July) he said: “Is there still scope to open Ibrox with three sides? It doesn’t look that way at the minute.

“Is there scope to go to Hampden which you’d think would be the closest and most sensible venue? It doesn’t look like that at the minute because after the Pink concert there on Saturday night they’re digging up the pitch and relaying it.

“Where else can they play? It looks like Murrayfield might be the last option standing.”

Will Rangers play their home games at Murrayfield amid Ibrox uncertainty?

This entire situation is an absolute mess and those in charge of the running of Ibrox behind the scenes should be hanging their heads in shame having allowed this to happen so close to the start of the season.

Philippe Clement’s side’s league campaign is now only a matter of weeks away and Champions League qualifiers are set to be played before that and still supporters have no idea where they will be watching their side.

Those opening fixtures could be crucial not only to the Light Blues’ season but Clement’s hopes of keeping his job as we have seen Gers managers sacked in recent years following poor starts to the season.

Hopefully, some clarity will emerge from the club sooner rather than later, but at this stage it does genuinely feel like there is no other option for the Gers than Murrayfield.
