Dougie Robertson has refused to admit that Celtic have already beaten Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title.
The former Gers played believes the title race is far from over, with Philippe Clement closing the gap on their Old Firm rivals to nine points after a 1-0 win over Dundee on Saturday 21 December.
An 11-point gap had opened up, with Aberdeen also taking the second spot in the league table, but the Light Blues’ recent form has seen the title race certainly open up a little.
Taking to X [22 December], Robertson wrote: “If Rangers win our next 3 games we will be minimum 6 points behind Celtic. Some people would lead you to believe the league is over.
“There is a long way to go and anything is possible. No surrender.”
Rangers to beat Celtic to Scottish Premiership title?
Clement’s players will absolutely believe they have everything it takes to beat their bitter rivals to the league title, even despite their horrendous start to the campaign.
It would be quite concerning if the players had already given up, and while the majority of supporters are pessimistic at this point, Robertson is spot on – anything can happen.
There was no hope at all of a potential comeback a few weeks ago but brilliant displays against Tottenham in the Europa League and a hard-fought defeat to the Hoops have completely changed that.
Pressure on Clement has also reduced, with fans more accepting of the Belgian thanks to a turnaround in on-pitch performances, and the entire club have been given a boost after the new boardroom additions.
Robertson has the right mindset for the second half of the campaign. It makes no sense to rule the Gers out completely, even if it does hurt a little more if Celtic manage to keep up the race and beat them to the trophy.
