Leeds United tipped for signing spree & 'big end to window' - pundit

Leeds United need a big end to the transfer window if they are to live up to their billing as Championship title favourites.

That is the view of former Scotland and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton, who was speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Whites’ chances for the 2024-25 campaign.

Leeds kicked off the new season with a 3-3 draw at home against Portsmouth on Saturday (10 August).

Daniel Farke’s side have lost 17 senior players since the end of last season, including Championship Player of the Season Crysencio Summerville and teenage sensation Archie Gray.

Just four new players have arrived at Elland Road so far with the transfer window set to shut on 30 August.

Football Insider revealed on 5 August that Leeds expect to complete a top-class forward signing well before the 30 August transfer cut-off.

Hutton insisted any new arrivals need to “get into the manager’s thinking straight away and hit the ground running”.

He told Football Insider: “I’ve seen it time and time again with teams who almost get to the Premier League and it doesn’t quite happen.

“Next thing you know, all the top stars are leaving.

“It depends on who they bring in.

“They’ve lost a lot of talent, and they will go out and replace it.

“Those signings will need to get into the manager’s thinking straight away and hit the ground running.

“There are a lot of top teams in this Championship and I think it’s going to be really difficult.

“You need strength in depth. It’s going to come down to who they can get in to replace these guys, and they will need a big end to the window. I expect it to happen.”
