Juventus may be able to secure the signing of Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the January transfer window from Everton with a permanent offer, according to GiveMeSport.

The outlet reported on their website on 15 October that it would be “difficult” for the Italian giants to land the Toffees striker midseason, but a “strong” bid for a permanent transfer could make it possible.

Juve’s attention has been caught by the fact Calvert-Lewin, 27, is into the final year of his contract at Goodison Park.

According to TEAMtalk on 13 October the Toffees are now back in talks over a “lucrative” extension, after it had been reported by i News on 4 October that their attempt to re-open negotiations last month had been turned down.

Beto also wanted on loan from Everton at Allianz Stadium

It seems unlikely that Juventus would stump up the cash to make a Calvert-Lewin sale worthwhile for Everton midseason, and it will only be an option if he doesn’t sign a new deal by January.

They could begin discussing a summer free transfer at that point, and would have a head start on English clubs that have shown interest in recent months, and would surely prefer to do so.

But if they are frustrated in their hopes of doing a winter deal for Beto and see a new striker as the difference between winning or coming up short in a title race at that stage – Thiago Motta’s side are currently third after seven games, three points from the top – they might come up with an offer that Everton have to consider.

From an Everton perspective, selling Calvert-Lewin is only really preferable to losing him for nothing next summer, and Sean Dyche probably won’t want to lose him either way.

There isn’t expected to be a huge amount of PSR leeway for The Friedkin Group to use in January [Kieran Maguire, 26 September] and, unless Armando Broja explodes once fit following his loan move from Chelsea, it would nearly all have to go on finding a replacement striker if the top man left.

The new owners are expected to want to make moves in the winter window after rushing back in for a takeover deal ahead of John Textor [Matt Slater, 27 September] but incoming ones are surely the priority.

In other Everton news, a Sky Sports journalist has raved about the “incredible” sight he saw in person at the new stadium.
