Leicester City points deduction news 'surprises' Stefan Borson

The Leicester City points deduction case should be settled before the start of the season despite “strange” reports of delays.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that it is “surprising” that the points deduction hearing has not already started.

Leicester were charged with breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules in March after reporting losses of £89.7million in 2022-23.

The Foxes now face a hefty points deduction for the 2024-25 season after they secured their return to the Premier League.

As per the Daily Mail, Leicester’s case could drag on beyond the start of next season.

Borson believes the precedent set by Everton and Nottingham Forest’s case last season should help to accelerate the process so that it can be finalised before the start of the new campaign.

“This is strange,” Borson told Football Insider.

“I think it’s unlikely that this will go too far beyond the start of the season.

“We’re only in June and this has been in place now as a live issue since March.

“It seems quite surprising that they’ve not yet had the hearing at all.

“They surely must have put in place a timetable for it to be heard before the start of the season.

“The decision on it really should be quite quick as well, because we’re now in a situation where a lot of the complaints that we had last season in respect to PSR were because we had none of the framework and the matrix of punishment.

“Now that we’ve got the cases that have been processed last season, it should be much easier to assess.“
