‘What has he done to you?’: Micah Richards can’t believe what Alan Shearer has said about one Arsenal player

England get their Euros campaign underway on Sunday, and the debate about how the Three Lions should line-up is already underway.

So many people have so many different opinions on how England should start against Serbia.

Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards have been debating how England should play this weekend, and Shearer has come up with an interesting idea.

Shearer wants to start with a 4-3-2-1 system with Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden playing as dual number 10s, with no space for Bukayo Saka in his side.

As you can imagine, Richards was stunned by Shearer’s call, questioning why he would leave Saka out of his team.

Micah Richards baffled by Alan Shearer’s Bukayo Saka snub

Shearer and Richards discussed how England should start.

“I’ve gone with two tens, they can go where they want – Bellingham and Foden,” Shearer said.

“That’s pathetic, it’s ridiculous. No wonder you didn’t last as a manager,” Richards said.

“That’s what I mean, no Saka? What has he done to you?” Richards asked.

Gareth Southgate’s problem

As ridiculous as it would be to drop Saka for the opening game of the Euros, you have to acknowledge that Gareth Southgate has some tough calls to make here.

Yes, you want Saka in the starting XI, but if you play with traditional wide players you either have to play Phil Foden out wide or play Jude Bellingham in a deeper role, two positions where they’re less effective.

Both men are at their best when they can play in more advanced positions, and there is a case to make that England would be best lining up like this with the likes of Declan Rice, Conor Gallagher and Adam Wharton playing in the more traditional midfield roles.

It will certainly be interesting to see how Gareth Southgate opts to line-up his side on Sunday.
