Next Man United manager: Update on two big names from senior source

Mauricio Pochettino is out of the running to be the new Manchester United manager following talks with the club, sources have told Football Insider.

Man United chiefs were considering appointing Pochettino after Football Insider revealed last month the Argentine had emerged as a “serious and very interesting” option for the club after he left Chelsea by mutual consent.

A senior source has revelaed former Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel is also no longer in the frame for the job after meeting with Sir Jim Ratcliffe in Monaco last week.

Man United’s review into the 2023-24 season is still not complete as Erik ten Hag is waiting to hear from the club whether he will be sacked.

The Dutchman endured a challenging campaign at Old Trafford after finishing eighth in the Premier League before the FA Cup final success over Manchester City secured Europa League football for next season.

Man United to decide on Erik ten Hag future as talks continue

There have been plenty of names linked with the Man United job in recent weeks as speculation around Ten Hag’s position has ramped up.

Football Insider revealed last month Sir Alex Ferguson was backing Pochettino to take over at Old Trafford before holding talks with club chiefs over the position.

The Argentine was believed to be one of the prime candidates to replace Ten Hag alongside Tuchel, but they are both now out of the running.

Kieran McKenna was also on the Premier League giants’ radar following his work at Ipswich Town, but the club’s former assistant manager decided to sign a new contract to remain at Portman Road.

Football Insider previously revealed Roberto De Zerbi was seen as the “stand-out candidate” to take over at Man United, with the Italian leaving Brighton at the end of last season.

Old Trafford chiefs are expected to make a decision on Ten Hag’s future this week as they decide whether or not to hand him another chance to prove himself next season.
