Bardell backs Rangers to seal deal for PL free agent in Butland-like transfer

Dan Bardell has suggested that Steven Alzate could prove to be a good signing for Rangers with the midfielder set to be released by Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Colombian has been linked to Rangers in the past and, with his Brighton contract coming to an end, he will be up for grabs this summer [Daily Record].

With the Gers looking to rebuild their squad this summer on limited funds, the 25-year-old could prove to be a useful signing.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes that Alzate may be enticed by the Gers and a move could benefit all parties.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Bardell said: “In the market that Rangers are operating in, unfortunately, they have to work smartly and I think he would be a smart pickup.

“He’s an international player with high-level Premier League experience and would probably jump at the chance to move to the club.

“They’ve had success with signings like that with Jack Butland on a free after his career trajectory went off a bit. Rangers could potentially do the same for Alzate.“

The Gers are looking to rebuild a large proportion of their squad after losing plenty of stars at the end of the season via contracts and loans ending.

This will see Philippe Clement look to add plenty of talent to his squad over the summer as he attempts to catch up with Celtic.

Rangers missed out on the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup to their Old Firm rivals in a frustrating end to the season.

With John Lundstram set to depart at the end of his contract, he will need to be replaced given his importance on the squad at Ibrox.

Alzate has plenty of Premier League experience as well as being a Colombia international with seven appearances to his name.

After two loan spells with Standard Liege, he may look to move to Belgium on a permanent basis but a move to Rangers could prove beneficial for all parties.
