'Lethal' 22-goal striker who Arsenal want has decided to leave and come to the Premier League - journalist

As Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side arrived in the United States for their pre-season tour, they did so without a new signing in their ranks.

In that regard, it’s probably best not to count both Tommy Setford and Lucas Nygaard, two 18-year-olds recently signed for the academy sides.

Otherwise, it seems as if Riccardo Calafiori will soon undergo his Arsenal medical – not in time for him to join the playing squad in the US.

It’s been a slow summer so far for the Gunners, but it now seems as if Edu and his transfer team are ready to step things up a notch.

And after securing a deal for Calafiori, Arsenal still want to make three more signings this summer.

One of those will be a new backup goalkeeper in the eventuality that Aaron Ramsdale leaves – nothing too glamorous.

But the addition of a new midfielder and a new forward to Arteta’s squad could prove a lot more exciting.

In that regard, it seems as if Arsenal are nearing a deal for Mikel Merino, who is preparing to leave Real Socidedad.

However, a deal for a new forward is yet to progress.

Arsenal target Brian Brobbey wants to leave Ajax and come to England

Early in the summer, Arsenal were linked with Ajax striker Brian Brobbey – a self-confessed Arsenal fan.

Brobbey was seen as a realistic alternative to Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, who turned out to be off-limits.

And following a ‘lethal’ season in front of goal in the Netherlands, netting 22 goals, Brobbey has now decided that he wants to play in the Premier League.

At least, that’s the update via journalist Florian Plettenberg who shared his news on X.

The journalist said that the 22-year-old had received many approaches and was being monitored by AS Roma in Italy, but the striker ultimately wants to come to England.

Plettenberg shared: “Brian Brobbey could leave AFC Ajax already this summer!

“22 y/o striker has received many inquiries. AS Roma are monitoring his situation.

“… but Brobbey is also keen to play [in the] Premier League next season. Contract valid until 2027.

“Price valuation: €25-30m.”

Of course, if the Gunners were unsuccessful in securing Arteta’s number one Arsenal target this summer, perhaps they could turn to Brobbey as a cost-effective alternative.

The price tag mentioned appears very reasonable for a striker who evidently still has a ton of potential.

And perhaps Brobbey could fulfil a similar role at Arsenal to the one originally intended for Benjamin Sesko.
