'Like him a lot': Mikel Arteta says he loves £30m Arsenal player who's in talks to leave
????
Arsenal will have to raise funds through player sales to facilitate new signings in order to comply with Profit and Sustainability regulations.
The Gunners are working on a deal to sign Mikel Merino and Arteta is also thought to be in the market for a new attacker.
Pedro Neto has been linked to Arsenal, as has Nico Williams, though the Athletic Bilbao star looks set to stay put.
When asked about possible outgoings following Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday evening, Arteta waxed lyrical about a striker linked with the exit door.
Mikel Arteta praises Eddie Nketiah after links to Marseille
Nketiah has been heavily linked with a move to Ligue 1 outfit Marseille and is thought to be nearing a move.
However, the forward appeared against Leverkusen and when asked about his future, Arteta shared just how highly he rates him.
“We can’t talk about things like that,” the Arsenal boss said, via Sky Sports.
“He played some minutes today.
“He is a player who gives us so much that we like him a lot. And at this moment there is nothing to discuss.”
Whilst Arteta did praise Nketiah, his answer does suggest there could be movement in the coming days, given he used the phrase ‘at this moment’.
Arsenal willing to offer discount on Eddie Nketiah
Arsenal previously valued Nketiah at £30m and it was suggested that they wouldn’t budge on that asking price.
That put Marseille off and the deal looked in limbo briefly but now The Gunners have shown a willingness to offer a discount on their original price.
Marseille have already had a £23m bid rejected for Nketiah, so evidently the two clubs aren’t far from reaching an agreement.
It’s certainly one to keep an eye on…
