John Wenham thinks Tottenham defender Ashley Phillips will be ready for a Premier League loan next season.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose doesn’t think a third consecutive Championship loan makes sense for the 19-year-old.

Phillips is currently playing his football with Stoke City, and after a slow start to life at the bet365 Stadium, he is beginning to make quite the impression.

As a result, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – wants to see the centre-back moved up a division next year.

“I think Phillips will be ready for a Premier League loan next season,” Wenham said.

“Hopefully the rest of this loan goes well for Phillips. If it does, I don’t see the point in him doing a third loan in the Championship.

“Therefore, it will have to be Premier League, and then see where things go from there.”

Tottenham defender Ashley Phillips to join Premier League club on loan?

Phillips started as Stoke kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 Championship win away at Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday (6 November).

This was the centre-back’s fourth consecutive start for the Potters. Therefore, it is clear that Phillips is slowly earning the trust of Stoke boss Narcís Pèlach.

As a result, Ange Postecoglou will be delighted.

Spurs aren’t short of talented young defenders at the moment, with one academy gem being compared to Ledley King.

Therefore, Phillips might have a fight on his hands to get into the first-team picture in North London. However, this can only be a good thing from Spurs’ point of view.

And if the England youth international goes on loan to a Premier League club next season, he could return ready to stake his claim for a first-team place.

In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy could make a statement by signing Sunderland wonderkid Chris Rigg.
