Lilywhite Rose moots Tottenham could sign 24y/o int'l midfielder for just £3m in January

John Wenham has speculated that Tottenham could sign Lille midfielder Angel Gomes for £3million in January.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose thinks the 24-year-old would “tick many boxes” as a club signing in North London.

As reported by Give Me Sport (5 November), Daniel Levy will front negotiations as Spurs look to sign Gomes. The midfielder is entering the final six months of his deal with Lille and is keen on a return to the Premier League.

And after previously backing the club to agree a pre-contract with Gomes, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has suggested that a deal could be agreed as soon as January.

“Once Spurs have a pre-contract agreed, they could negotiate a deal with Lille,” Wenham said.

“Therefore, I’d suspect they would offer £3million to make the deal happen in January. Alternatively, they could just wait until July and sign him for free.

“Gomes is a recent England international and someone I could see Tottenham moving forward with as a club signing, rather than someone Ange Postecoglou necessarily wants.

“He would tick many boxes in terms of the kind of club signings Spurs have historically made.”

Tottenham to sign Lille midfielder Angel Gomes in January?

Gomes’ contractual situation could be of great benefit to Spurs. Should the Premier League side agree a pre-contract with the midfielder in January, it would put them in a great position of power.

Lille won’t want to lose such a talented player for free. Therefore, they might be tempted into accepting a low offer.

As a result, Postecoglou might be able to add a talented midfielder to his squad mid-season at a very minimal cost.

It remains to be seen exactly how this transfer saga plays out. However, if Spurs play their cards right, they stand to benefit greatly.
