Pedro Porro reacts to Real Madrid transfer reveal after what he was sent at Tottenham

Tottenham star Pedro Porro has acknowledged Real Madrid’s reported interest in him after being asked questions about his future.

Speaking to El Desmarque (13 November) while on international duty, Porro said that while he’s focused on the task at hand in North London at present, a lot could change in a year.

The right-back was quizzed about persistent links with a move to Real Madrid shortly and didn’t close the door on the possibility, while also expressing a desire to work under Pep Guardiola.

Porro said: “I am focused on my job. I am 25 years old, and at 26 I don’t know where I can be, football is like that.

“My friends send me the (Real Madrid) rumours, it is a compliment – it is the result of a job well done that one of the best clubs in the world is taking notice of me.”

Porro has established himself as by far and away the Lilywhites’ first-choice right-back since arriving on a loan-to-buy deal from Sporting CP in 2023 and has certainly delivered on his £39.7million price tag [The Guardian].

The 25-year-old’s desire to play under Guardiola is hardly surprising, given he never got the chance to do so in three years at Manchester City between 2019 and 2022, twice being loaned out.

However, with Guardiola’s future at City up in the air, Spurs and Ange Postecoglou in particular will be confident in retaining Porro for the time being, preventing him from becoming Kyle Walker mark two.

Real Madrid remain looming in the background though, and are long-time admirers of Porro as a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal at right-back [AS, 31 October]; as is Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Under contract until 2028 at a club under no pressure to sell him, it remains to be seen just how long Porro’s upward career trajectory will come in the white shirt of Spurs.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs are one of several clubs set to pursue a soon-to-be free agent in the January transfer window.
