Lilywhite Rose predicts senior Tottenham player to be sold ASAP, Germany or Spain beckon

John Wenham claims the sale of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is crucial for Tottenham to address a key squad issue.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose feels that the Danish midfielder will be moved on this summer.

Galatasaray vice-president Ibrahim Hatipoglu has confirmed that the 28-year-old is a target for the club.

He told Haber Sarı Kirmizi (via The Evening Standard, 17 July), “Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is a good player, he has many suitors, he wants to see all options.”

But Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels the Dane will end up elsewhere.

“There are rumours every day that Højbjerg is moving to Turkey, but there doesn’t seem to be much substance to that,” Wenham said.

“I still think he will likely end up at Atletico Madrid or Borussia Dortmund. I feel that he deserves that calibre of move.

“Hopefully something will be finalised soon because the more non-homegrown players sold, the easier it is to comply with those homegrown squad rules.

“That will then allow us to bring other players into the club.”

Premier League clubs must name a certain number of homegrown players in their squad each season.

Therefore, by selling Højbjerg, it frees up space for another non-homegrown player to be signed and added to Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

The Australian won’t want non-homegrown places in his squad being taken up by players he doesn’t plan to utilise throughout the season.

And considering how few games Højbjerg started last season, it is safe to assume he would fall into that category of player.

As a result, it would be best for all parties involved if the player were to be moved on.
