Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has hailed ex-Man United star Raphael Varane as a ‘legend’ following his retirement.
Konate, 25, took to social media to heap praise on his 31-year-old fellow Frenchman for his illustrious 14-year career that saw him win four Champions Leagues, three La Liga’s, and a World Cup among others.
The former Real Madrid and Man United defender was forced to retire after picking up a devastating knee injury just 23 minutes into his debut for Italian side Como in early August.

Konate has played a pivotal role in a Liverpool defence that has only conceded one Premier League goal in their opening five games under new manager Arne Slot.
The centre-back has played 390 minutes for his club in the league alone, popping up with an assist for in-form winger Luis Diaz’s opener in their 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday (September 21).
The Liverpool man was one of many players, past and present, to take to Instagram and pay tribute to Varane following his retirement.
