Liverpool are pushing to complete a deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili and have discovered Valencia’s asking price for the goalkeeper this summer.

The Merseyside giants are yet to make any additions to their first-team squad in the current transfer window, but are working to strengthen behind the scenes to ensure Arne Slot’s reign gets off to the best possible start.

Real Sociedad and Spain star Martin Zubimendi has been at the top of Liverpool’s wishlist but widespread reports this week claim the midfielder has rejected a proposed switch to Anfield.

The Reds are keen to put themselves is a strong position in the future by investing in bright young talent, with several key players approaching the twilight years of their careers.

While Alisson, a stalwart of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure, still has three years remaining on his current contract, the club are scouring the market for goalkeepers who could replace the Brazilian in the long-term.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Liverpool’s have focused their attentions on Valencia’s Mamardashvili as a potential successor for Alisson down the line, with the Georgian believed to be on their radar for some time.

The report suggests Liverpool and Valencia held talks regarding Mamardashvili’s availability on Sunday and the Premier League outfit said they would return with a proposal within 72 hours.

It’s claimed Valencia are demanding a fee of €40million (£34m) for the 23-year-old, who shone between the sticks for Georgia at Euro 2024 earlier this summer.

Liverpool intend to complete a permanent deal for Mamardashvili far in advance of the transfer deadline before sending the shot-stopper on loan, with four English clubs interested in signing him on a temporary basis for the 2024/25 campaign.

Valencia would be keen to take Mamardashvili back on loan but Liverpool’s preference is for the ‘keeper to join a Premier League rival in order to get the player acclimatised to the rigours of English football.

Mamardashvili rose through Dinamo Tbilisi’s academy ranks as a youngster and moved to Valencia in June 2021 on a short-term deal.

After impressing then manager Jose Bordalas, Mamardashvili secured himself a place in Valencia’s starting XI to face Getefa on the opening day of the 2021/22 season.

Since his arrival in Spain, Mamardashvili has made exactly 100 appearances in all competitions across three seasons at the Mestalla.

Mamardashvili has been capped 21 times at international level and played every single minute of Georgia’s Euro 2024 campaign.
