Derek Ferguson is delighted by what he has seen from Hamza Igamane in the early days of his Rangers career.
The Light Blues signed the Moroccan from AS FAR in the summer but had to wait until the Old Firm derby defeat at Celtic on 1 September for him to even be included in a match-day squad.
In three substitute appearances so far he has suggested it was worth the wait as it has become clear why the club spent money on an injured youngster, and Ferguson believes Philippe Clement might have something special on his hands.
He exclusively told Ibrox News: “Ah, love him. Obviously it’s just been in short spells but it’s clear to see now why we bought a young player who was injured when we brought him into the club.
“He looks [like] if we can work with him over the course of the next two or three year I think he’s going to be top drawer, to be honest with you.
“Looking at him, he’s an exciting player, he looks as if he’s got a few tricks in his locker. That’s what you want to see in football, you want to see guys who are going to excite you, and he certainly comes into that category.“
Philippe Clement strikes gold with Rangers striker signing?
Igamane may prove to be a case study in allowing plans to play out in football given how frustrating the Gers’ transfer window appeared to be without new senior competition for regular starter Cyriel Dessers up front.
The 21-year-old may still be in the very early stages of his Rangers career but the wisdom of Clement’s decision to move for him at a time when that money could have been spent on a player to make an immediate impact is gradually being unveiled.
Dessers has held the fort fairly admirably for the most part, with Danilo’s injury issues far from over [Rangers Review, 5 September], with his double against Dundee on 21 September taking his tally to seven so far this term.
But despite the relative lack of experience his new teammate has he may have some real competition on his hands after all [PLZ Soccer, 16 September] even if, rightly so, not everyone is ready to write him off yet [Marvin Bartley, 21 September].
In other Rangers news, a suspicion as to why the Light Blues were snubbed by the front runner to become the new CEO has been aired.
