Man City 115 charges: Stefan Borson shares verdict on surprise new documents

Manchester City won’t be too concerned about hacker Rui Pinto’s claims he has hundreds of club emails and documents proving they have broken the financial fair play (FFP) rules.

That is the view of former Man City financial advisor Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider it is “very odd” for Pinto – the creator of the Football Leaks website – to wait this long before handing over the evidence to the media or relevant authorities.

Man City were dealt 115 charges by the Premier League in February 2023 for allegedly breaching the FFP rules over a nine-year period.

Pep Guardiola’s side are alleged to have concealed payments through third parties by disguising them as sponsorship revenue.

The English champions’ case is expected to be heard in November, with Football Insider revealing they could be relegated to the Championship if they are found guilty.

Pinto has now threatened to release documents proving Man City have broken the rules after claiming to have gained access to the club’s emails.

Premier League already has documents in Man City 115 charges case

Borson has insisted the Premier League will already have the access to the relevant documents it needs to make its case against Man City.

“I don’t think it makes much difference to the situation at all,” Borson told Football Insider.

“If he’s got documents that he’s wanting to share that are meaningful and important, I suspect they would have been shared previously either to the press or the relevant authorities.

“It seems very odd that you would wait until 2024 or even later before disclosing such important documents if you thought they were great.

“I don’t think City will be losing too much sleep over it, but it’s the story that never dies as far as they are concerned.

“I think the Premier League will have the access and the documents that it feels it needs to make its case.”
