Kevin De Bruyne could be offered the chance to join another club in the City Football Group once he leaves Man City, The Daily Telegraph have reported.
The midfielder returned to the starting XI for Pep Guardiola’s side on Wednesday night, and helped end their seven-game winless run with a goal and assist in a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.
His future though remains uncertain, with his deal set to expire at the end of this season, meaning he can sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs overseas from January.
According to the latest report Man City will give him the chance to take on a role at one of the other clubs within their owners’ portfolio, once he decides to leave The Etihad.
There have already been claims that the Belgian has held talks with MLS over a move to the US.
A sensible offer for Man City to make to Kevin De Bruyne
Football Insider Opinion
The City Football Group do of course own a club in the USA, in the form of New York City FC. The likes of Melbourne City in Australia, and La Liga side Girona also come under their umbrella.
Giving the 33-year-old the chance to remain within the City Football Group even if he is to leave the Premier League champions does feel like the right thing for those involved to do.
He showed on his return to the lineup against Forest that he still has the quality to make an impact at the very top level of the game.
So if De Bruyne does decide to look for a new challenge away from Man City in the summer, it makes sense for them to try and give another of their clubs the chance to benefit from him.
Given that speculation about a move to America, those links with New York City FC could arguably make them the obvious next destination for him.
Keeping De Bruyne within the fold could also help when it comes to setting him up for a potential coaching role at Man City, where he could certainly help, further down the line.
And since he is such a big name, keeping him within the setup may give them an extra – if not hugely needed – boost from a financial point of view as well.
