Revealed: Man City lay groundwork to sign PL ever-present

Man City have been laying the groundwork to re-sign former youth academy player Pedro Porro, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Football Insider journalist Connor Humm revealed the right-back is being closely watched by City and would fit “like a glove” in Pep Guardiola’s team.

The 25-year-old was on Man City’s books from 2019 to 2022 but never made any first-team appearances for the club.

The Spain international spent most of his time away on loan at other clubs, but he eventually returned to the Premier League via Tottenham Hotspur in 2023.

Football Insider revealed that Spurs have valued the right-back at £80million, but he is currently a target for Guardiola as he prepares to find a long-term replacement for Kyle Walker.

Man City build their academy to play how they want their first team to be, which means that Porro would have a level of understanding as to what Guardiola demands from his team.

Man City will have to work hard to sign Pedro Porro

Porro has become a regular at Spurs and has proven his ability to create problems offensively by scoring eight and providing 10 assists in 63 appearances for the club.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that it will take a big offer from the defending Premier League champions to re-sign Porro.

The right-back is under contract with the Londoners until 2028 and has played every Premier League game this season, and Football Insider confirmed that Spurs are “pulling out all the stops” to prevent him from leaving.

Walker isn’t the only player that Guardiola is searching to replace in the long term, as Kevin de Bruyne’s future at the club remains uncertain.

Man City

The Belgium international is out of contract at the Etihad Stadium at the end of this season, and Football Insider revealed that he is in the driving seat as far as contract negotiations go.

Football Insider reported that Man City are monitoring Florian Wirtz, but Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also scouting him.
