Man United Exclusive: Big Eriksen update tonight

Man United have told Christian Eriksen he is free to find a new club before 31 August, sources have told Football Insider.

Eriksen, 32, has just one year remaining on his current contract and is no longer considered an integral part of Erik ten Hag’s plans for the coming season.

The Denmark international is increasingly likely to leave Old Trafford before the transfer window closes, while United are inviting offers for his services.

Football Insider revealed in June that clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia had been monitoring his situation with a view to making their interest formal.

Bids for the midfielder are now imminent as the Red Devils are willing to let him leave on a cut-price deal to get his wages off of the bill.

Eriksen has made 72 appearances for Man United since his arrival on a free transfer three years ago, but his influence on the team has begun to fade.

He featured just 28 times last season, with only 14 of those appearances coming from the start as he was slowly phased out of Ten Hag’s team.

He remained an unused substitute during the community shield penalty defeat to Man City.

Eriksen would become the latest name to leave Old Trafford since the transfer window opened as they look to raise funds for reinvestment.

The sales of Mason Greenwood, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Willy Kambwala, Alvaro Carreras and Donny van de Beek have accumulated a total of £51.3million so far.

Meanwhile, United have already completed four major incoming deals with Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt joining up with the squad.

As revealed by Football Insider, Ten Hag’s side are also targeting a new number six, with Manuel Ugarte their top priority, although sales are needed before they can complete a deal.

Eriksen’s departure would free up extra wages and open space in the squad while bringing in a small transfer fee and could facilitate a move for the PSG midfielder.
