Spurs Sources: Significant Ashley Phillips update tonight

Tottenham are willing to offload Ashley Phillips before the transfer window shuts, sources have told Football Insider.

A loan move for the 19-year-old centre-back is the most likely option for him before the 31st August cut-off.

Getafe are among multiple clubs who have registered an interest in the youngster.

Phillips has had little game time in pre-season as Ange Postecoglou does not feel he is ready to play at centre-back yet for Spurs.

The defender has yet to make a senior appearance for the north London club but has played in five games for Tottenham’s Under-21s.

Phillips has enjoyed successful loan periods in recent years, with another move likely to help continue his development.

With Postecoglou unlikely to provide Phillips any regular minutes this season, a loan deal away from the club is considered best for all parties.

The centre-back spent last season on loan at Plymouth Argyle, where he made 18 appearances in the Championship.

Phillips spent time on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the previous season, but he only featured eight times.

One central defender who isn’t expected to leave the club in this window is Ben Davies, despite the fact he’s in the final year of his contract.

Football Insider revealed that the 31-year-old wants to stay at Spurs for this season, with Postecoglou said not to be worried about the situation.
