Man United Exclusive: Significant Manuel Ugarte update today

Man United are still prioritising a defensive midfield signing with Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte the top target, sources have told Football Insider.

Ugarte, 23, was left out of the squad for PSG’s Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre on Friday (16 August).

United plan to boost their transfer kitty with several fringe exits before the 30 August transfer deadline.

Erik ten Hag’s side will then launch a move for Ugarte to bolster their ranks in defensive midfield.

The Red Devils plan to add the Uruguay international despite a U-turn in the future of veteran star Casemiro.

Football Insider revealed on 13 August that Man United now expect the Brazil international to stay this season after struggling to find a buyer in the summer window.

Man United to sell fringe stars and launch Ugarte move

There was early interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, but bids have not materialised and there is no current prospect of a transfer.

Ugarte joined PSG from Sporting CP last summer (2023) despite strong interest from Chelsea.

He is under contract at Parc des Princes until June 2028.

The midfielder made 37 appearances across all competitions for PSG last term, with 27 of those outings coming as part of the starting lineup.

Ugarte, who has 22 caps for Uruguay, played every match at Copa America this summer as Marcelo Bielsa’s side finished in third place.
