Man United Insider: Update on Amad Diallo contract talks today

Man United are in advanced talks with Amad Diallo about agreeing new contract, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that both parties are hopeful of reaching an agreement before the turn of the year.

Brown went on to explain that the remaining negotiations are expected to be a formality, as the 22-year-old is keen to commit his future to the club.

This comes after Football Insider first revealed on 5 December that the Ivorian had begun talks over a new deal after impressing Ruben Amorim.

Since the boss’ arrival, Diallo has thrived in the new system, with his energy and willingness to press from the front quickly becoming a feature of United’s games.

This was displayed yet again in the Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham, when his pressure forced Fraser Forster into a mistake and the effort was rewarded with a goal.

As things stand, the winger’s contract is set to run until the end of the season although United reserve the option to extend it by one year, and a new deal quickly became a priority.

Amad Diallo set to sign Man United contract after new talks

In eight games since Amorim took over, Diallo has started six of those, scored two goals and provided six assists, cementing his position as a key player.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and working closely with elite players, insisted that his performances in recent weeks have played a key role in earning him a renewed contract at Old Trafford.

“I’m not expecting there to be any issues, they’re making good progress in talks,” he told Football Insider.

“The things that are still left to agree should be a formality, I think.

“From what I’m hearing, they’re confident that an agreement will be reached soon because it’s one everybody involved wants to get over the line.

“It could even be done before the January window opens, if all goes to plan.

“His performances since Amorim came in have been excellent, and it seems the manager is impressed.

“He’s always getting at the opposition full-back, he’s running in behind and forcing United further up the park, and he’s getting better all the time.

“United have been looking to tie him down to a new deal for a while now, and his recent performances have only increased their efforts.
