Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested Man United will welcome a January exodus of some players signed under Erik ten Hag.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed Ruben Amorim will have to wait until next summer before his “fingerprints” can be applied to the Red Devils squad.
Ten Hag was sacked last week with more than 18 months left to run on his deal at United and despite being allowed to sign ex-Ajax and Dutch-based stars in the summer window.
Amorim was subsequently appointed on a contract until June 2027 and will start work at Old Trafford next week.
Andre Onana, Matthijs De Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Antony and Noussair Mazraoui were all brought to Man United under Ten Hag after their time together at Ajax.
Netherlands internationals Joshua Zirkzee and Tyrell Malacia were also signed under the 54-year-old.
Some Ten Hag signings will want Man United exit in January, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think some of Ten Hag’s players will want to go in January.
“That will probably be welcomed by the United management.
“They’ve got to reset the whole situation, but it’ll be July before Amorim starts to see his fingerprints on the squad.
“They’ve got a lot of juggling to do under a lot of pressure.
“A lot of that has been self-inflicted.”
