Man United's astonishing Ten Hag sack bill revealed

Man United will have to pay Erik ten Hag £17million if they decide to sack the Dutchman, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the cost of sacking the 54-year-old could impact the club’s spending in future transfer windows as they navigate FFP rules and regulations.

It’s understood that the club are reluctant to sack Ten Hag due to the cost but if results continue to underwhelm, they may be forced to take action.

The club’s board held multiple meetings in London to discuss Ten Hag’s future and have decided to back the manager for the foreseeable future.

Ten Hag is under immense pressure after overseeing Man United’s worst-ever start to a Premier League season, sitting in 14th with eight points from their first seven games.

Since acquiring 27.7 per cent of the club back in December 2023, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have made multiple cuts, resulting in the loss of 250 jobs at the club since they came in.

Not even the club’s greatest-ever manager was safe, as the club reached a mutual agreement with Sir Alex Ferguson to cancel his multi-million-pound ambassadorial contract.

With prime target Thomas Tuchel taking the England job and Gareth Southgate announcing he will be taking a break from management, Ten Hag’s hand has been strengthened over the international break.

Still, their Premier League game against Brentford and Europa League tie against Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce are pivotal for the Dutchman.
