Stefan Borson: Everton could land '£5m' windfall after new reveal

Everton would likely earn around £5million if they were to host a Europa League final game at their new stadium.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider hosting a one-off game would have more financial benefits for the city of Liverpool than the football club itself.

There have been suggestions on social media Everton’s new stadium on Bramley-Moore Dock is in contention to host the 2027 Champions League final.

Milan’s San Siro was supposed to host the showpiece fixture, but it will be replaced due to fears about the potential construction on the site.

Everton are set to make the move from Goodison Park into their new 52,888-capacity stadium for the start of next season.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider hosting a Europa League final could be a more realistic aspiration for the Merseysiders.

Everton stadium won’t host Champions League final

But Borson suggested hosting a one-off game won’t be particularly lucrative for the club.

“It won’t be big enough for a Champions League final,” Borson told Football Insider.

“They could host a Europa League final. There will be financial benefits, but obviously, it’s a one-off event.

“It’s probably worth single-digit millions of pounds. It won’t move the dial materially.

“They are effectively leasing the stadium out to UEFA for one matchday, so it won’t be particularly lucrative for Everton.

“It might be quite good for the city. There would be a lot of knock-on effects. That influx of 50,000 people to the hotels and hospitality venues of Liverpool will be positive.

“But it won’t be particularly lucrative to host a Europa League final.

“I’m not sure the exact number that other teams have got, but I wouldn’t imagine it’s much more than £5million.”
