Manchester United have submitted a £50.7million bid to sign Everton star Amadou Onana, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish newspaper reported on Sunday (23 June, page three) that Barcelona are big fans of the 22-year-old Belgium international but a deal for them faces “extreme difficulty” due to what Man United are offering.

It is understood that the Red Devils have offered lucrative personal terms to Onana while also offering Everton an up-front fee of £46.4million with the rest of their bid made up with add-ons.

Will Everton sell Amadou Onana?

Everton need to make some money before the end of June due to PSR issues.

Jarrad Branthwaite has attracted a lot of attention with Man United previously bidding for him [Liverpool Echo].

However, he is the golden boy at Goodison Park and could be a vital player for the club for years to come.

While Onana fits into the same category, he’s someone who’s more likely to be sold one because he’s already having a taste of the big time with Belgium at Euro 2024.

Onana’s wanted by Barcelona and Man United, he’s a young Belgian midfielder and he won’t really have any kind of deep attachment to Everton.

While Branthwaite is also on the radar of big clubs, he’ll no doubt have more emotional ties to the Toffees and that means he could be easier to keep happy than Onana.

That’s just speculation but what’s unlikely to be a guess is that Everton would rather keep Branthwaite than Onana, who just seems to be more replaceable.

Sell Onana before 30 June, sort out the PSR issues, keep Branthwaite and then allow Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell to make some additions before the 2024/25 season starts.

In other Everton news, a striker linked with a move to Goodison Park has said that the latest transfer news at the club is “amazing”.
