Manchester United face decision as Juventus target defender in January transfer window
Will they cash in while they can?
Juventus are interested in signing Manchester United centre-back Victor Lindelof in January, with the Red Devils facing a decision on whether to cash in on the defender while they can.
The Sweden international is out of contract at the end of the season and it seems very unlikely that he will stay on at Old Trafford beyond that point.
The 30-year-old has made just four Premier League appearances so far this season and all of them have been as a substitute.
While new manager Ruben Amorim will surely have some say on matters, it seems that Lindelof’s time with the club is coming to an end, having been there since 2017 when he signed from Benfica.
Italian publication TuttoSport report that Lindelof could even leave before the end of the season with Juventus interested in a move to solve an injury crisis in defence.
Injuries to Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal could force the Old Lady’s hand to move for a new centre-back in January and Lindelof is one of their targets.
If a bid comes in then Manchester United will have to make a decision on cashing in on the experienced defender while they still can, while losing some cover at the back for the rest of the season.
With his contract expiring just months later, Lindelof would not attract much of a transfer fee, but the Red Devils may well be tempted to get what they can for him and get his salary off the books for the rest of the season.
Juventus do have other options, with Feyenoord’s David Hancko and Paris Saint-Germain’s Milan Skriniar also on their radar.
Also into the final few months of their contract with Manchester United are Cristian Eriksen and Jonny Evans, who are unlikely to be playing for the Red Devils after this season.
Harry Maguire is also into the final year of his deal, but the club has an option to extend his contract and may still choose to take that up.
