Marc Cucurella and Puma break silence after 'embarrassing' Chelsea incident

Chelsea star Marc Cucurella and his boot sponsor Puma have played off the defender’s slips in their 4-3 Premier League win over Tottenham.

The 26-year-old slipped twice in the opening ten minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, allowing the hosts to go 2-0 up through goals from Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski.

Cucurella ran to the sidelines after the second incident to change his boots and appeared to berate the kitman, which was slammed as “embarrassing” by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.

Following the match, he posted and then quickly deleted an image of his new Puma Future 8 boots in the bin.

Jadon Sancho scored Chelsea’s first just six minutes after Kukuzevski’s goal, making it 2-1 as both sides went in for half-time.

Talismanic playmaker Cole Palmer took the game by the scruff of its neck after the break, scoring a penalty to equalise and setting Enzo Fernandez up for their third, although he didn’t get the assist.

Palmer then stepped up again, scoring his second penalty and beating Yaya Toure’s record of 11 consecutive spot-kicks scored, with a cheeky Panenka.

Spurs captain Hueng-Min Son got one back in added time but it turned out to be nothing more than a consolation.

Cucurella has been key to Enzo Maresca’s plans so far this season, starting 14 of his 16 games across all competitions, scoring zero goals, and providing one assist in 1269 minutes of action.

The Spain international took to Instagram, alongside Puma, to make lite of the situation, posing in his new boots next to a wet floor sign.

Maresca’s side have the opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool to two points after their 2-2 draw with Fulham.
