Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish admits that the club ‘want to be selling’ to clubs like Newcastle United after their failed attempt to sign captain Marc Guehi.
Eddie Howe’s side had four bids for the central defender rejected by the London club as they all failed to meet their £70million valuation.
It was an ultimately disappointing transfer window for Newcastle as they failed to bring in a central defender beyond free transfer Lloyd Kelly.
Marc Guehi to Newcastle United still a possibility
Speaking to Sky Sports, while Parish leaves the door open for a potential deal with the Tyneside club, he is adamant that “the club comes first”.
Parish adds, “We want to be selling to the top clubs or to clubs like Newcastle who have got great aspirations and have recently been in the Champions League so we have to manage all of those things.“
Guehi has remained professional throughout the transfer saga, starting and finishing all four of Palace’s games so far this season while bids were coming in.
The England international has since been named as club captain for the current season, replacing Joel Ward in the role.
Newcastle United have lost two first-team centre-backs, Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman to Cruciate ligament injuries.
With Emil Krafth picking up a know while on international duty with Sweden, the club are seriously lacking in numbers at the heart of defense.
In other news, Casemiro has been linked with a loan move to Turkish giants Galatasaray.
