'May Happen' - Alan Myers issues Everton transfer update on how close to 2nd signing after Mangala

Everton may be able to sign Earnest Nuamah from Lyon but the deal is by no means certain, according to Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports journalist responded to a supporter via X on 29 August to indicate he is “less confident” of the Ghanian winger arriving before the deadline, having earlier suggested another departure to follow Neal Maupay out is more likely.

The Toffees are already closing in on signing Orel Mangala from Lyon, and could complete a “double-raid” on the Ligue 1 side after John Textor suggested him [TBR Football, 29 August].

Myers wrote: “I’d be a bit less confident of that but still may happen”.

He added in another reply: “Nuamah not so close”.

The deal for Mangala looks set to be completed but not without extensive drama in the wake of a hijack attempt from Fiorentina.

The former Nottingham Forest midfielder seemingly had his head turned and was pushing to move to Serie A [Gianluca Di Marzio, 29 August], but Lyon’s president has refused to go back on his word to the Toffees so the move is still on [Di Marzio, 29 August].

In that context it would be no surprise if the Goodison Park hierarchy haven’t been able to direct a huge amount of attention towards adding the second Lyon player.

Ernest Nuamah could follow Lyon teammate Orel Mangala to Everton.

There is still time to get it done, and after Sean Dyche pursued Willy Gnonto from Leeds United again this summer [Sky Sports, 15 July] he seemingly would like another wide option.

It is not a major priority after deals to bring back Jack Harrison while adding Jesper Lindstrom and Iliman Ndiaye, but if there is a team-friendly deal to be done thanks to Textor’s input it is worth considering.

Everton have a better chance of signing one than the other.

Although Mangala is set to fill the gap left by international teammate Amadou Onana’s Goodison exit to Aston Villa the finances were thought to be tight beyond that.

When Kalvin Phillips was the being targeted he was expected to be the final signing of the window [Liverpool Echo, 14 August], so unless a Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit is on the horizon it is unclear what the Toffees can afford to add.

But there appears to be increasing interest in taking the striker away from Merseyside ahead of the deadline [Caught Offside, 27 August] to movement is still possible.

In other Everton news, a striker has been spotted with another club’s merchandise after agreeing a seven-figure permanent exit.
